I heard a piece this evening on Future Tense about a website where you can see how you rank against all AIM users. AIM Fight scores you based on how many buddy lists include your screen name.

The commentators noted that youth are more likely to have high scores compared to adults since youth use AIM and other instant message systems to communicate with each other. I wish more of my friends and colleagues were online and using AIM/MSN/Yahoo instant messengers. Sometimes instant message is the best way to contact someone with a quick question or comment.

My score is 647 – what’s yours?

    How do I win?
    Your score is the sum of the current number of people online who have you listed as a buddy, out to three degrees. This means the score is constantly changing, and the winner of the battle will constantly change with it.

    How can I increase my score?
    You can’t! You need to get people to add you to their Buddy List

  3. I’ve got a 1446. However, Drew kicks my butt with a whopping 4600-something. I think being connected to him probably boosts my score… he’s faculty advisor to a student group on his campus, so the kids all have him in their Buddy List. Which pretty much supports the “younger generation” hypothesis, and let me tell you how creepy it is to no longer be the “younger generation”!!
