No, honest, it is fun. I ride it everyday to and from work. At least once a month, I see one or more of the following: a three- or four-man mariachi band going from car to car to play for change; somebody lugging furniture onto the train; babies that make everyone smile; and people reading newspapers and books in every language imaginable. Yes, there are the occasional rats scurrying along the tracks, the fights and hissy fits of riders arguing over who pushed or bumped whom, and the dudes who sit with their legs spread so wide they take up three seats, but overall it still fascinates me (even though I’ve been riding for 18 years). The mayor of the city even rides the subway. If you come to New York, don’t leave town without at least one trip on subway.
